CAL3

An iQ-LED V2 light source for the calibration and characterization of wide-angle lenses

    CAL3 integrating sphere

    Product Overview

The CAL3 is a 0.29 m integrating sphere that uses iQ-LED V2 technology to illuminate a 38 mm concave curved opening. This type of opening, unlike the flat opening in CAL1, is ideal for cameras with a wide-angle lens, as it provides a 180-degree field of view for the camera under test. A bowl-shaped, non-reflective diffuser filter at the sphere opening ensures uniformity >95%.

iQ-LED V2 technology is a light source that is capable of generating custom spectra to replicate various light sources in a test lab environment. The CAL3 has one iQ-LED V2 element built into the back of the sphere, and it uses 20 LED channels to recreate almost any light spectrum for your camera testing.

As a result of the short response time of the iQ-LED V2, a full calibration can be performed in less than a second, provided the camera's image processing and transfer are fast enough.

The CAL3 uses a mini-spectrometer with a spectral range of 350–860 nm to achieve higher spectral resolution and sensitivity.

iQ-LED control software is provided with the CAL3. An iQ-LED API is also available for integration into your custom design.

    CAL3-XL

We also offer a larger version of the CAL3 for larger camera and lens systems. Check out the CAL3-XL product page for more details.

    Key Benefits

    iQ-LED light source

The CAL3 is an integrating sphere that uses iQ-LED technology to generate custom spectra for more accurate and flexible camera testing.

    High uniformity

The CAL2 achieves >96% illumination uniformity in the active chart area.

    Production Line Calibration

Thanks to its unique design, the CAL2 can be easily integrated into production lines and compact test environments.

    Luminance and color shading

Our CAL devices can be used to measure luminance and perform color shading measurements.

    Software and APIs

CAL2 can be controlled using the iQ-LED control software, and we also offer an iQ-LED API.

    CAL3 - Basic

As a Basic setup, you can also choose to have the CAL3 delivered without a spectrometer* and instead with a device preconfigured with illuminants. These illuminants must be individually requested (up to 40) and programmed into your device before delivery.

This option significantly reduces the product's total cost and is an excellent choice for new or smaller test labs looking to upgrade their image quality testing.

Please contact our sales department to get started with a basic product.

*A spectrometer can be purchased at a later date if desired.

    Use Case

    Typical application area

    Wide-Angle Camera Testing

Many camera systems use wide-angle lenses to capture more of the scene. These lenses are particularly important in the automotive and security industries, where capturing a wider field of view is essential for performance and safety, e.g., seeing all oncoming traffic or seeing a pedestrian at the edge of the scene. As a result, proper calibration and characterization of these systems are crucial for determining overall performance. The CAL3 is an ideal solution for calibrating camera systems with a 180° field of view. It uses iQ-LED technology, enabling you to generate custom spectra to simulate almost any real-world light source.
